I had a bit of a row with the Old Man this morning abt. the fruit for the “Chotta Hazri” in the mornings. According to the Butler we are allowed 3as worth of fruit per day, so I told the Old Man that we didn’t get one anna’s worth! He gave three different reasons why, all of which were daft. When I said that I could buy fruit ashore for an anna or two of much better quality than we get, he denied it! Later he tried to make out that John & I had had 8 bottles of whiskey between us this trip. Because we were T.T.’s he wanted to know where it was going. He then tried to tell me that it was a B.I. rule that those under 21 couldn’t drink, but that doesn’t apply to us! When the kits were brought up it was found that we had only four during our 10 months on the ship! These we sold to port. However, after that he was in a bad mood, but everyone talked when it was against him, & soon there will be a general quest. as to where the rest of the 6 rupees is going that he claims is spent on us, per head, for food!
