At 6.30 this morning, we moved back to our former berth by the grain elevator. We have taken on 1200 tns of grain so far. We then had to move down stream to another grain elevator where we must finish loading, and take on army lorries and cars.

All ships that have the room, are taking them. There are 22,000 to go across. The old man has been rowing pretty well everyone, and I’m afraid tempers are pretty short. There was 2 feet of water in the hold last night, and they can’t find the leak. The mate says she’s only fit for scrap iron.
