1st July 1944

We signed  off at 1100 this morning and visited Marconis immediately afterwards. We were extremely surprised to hear from Mr Taylor the Staff Clerk, that leave was very abundant. I had to accept a week’s advance leave or stand by in Swansea. I chose the former and managed to catch the 1445, which was packed to suffocation. I had to stand all the way. I arrived in Paddington at about 2030 but did not reach home until about 2300. The flying bombs in succession heralded my arrival!
