ARRIVED MERSEY
A light fog descended on us during the night, so we have been unable to see any land during the day. For some unknown reason we anchored off the Bar light for an hour and a half this morning, and again at about 3pm.
The pilot did not come on board until six fifteen!
While we anchored, a body floated passed the ship. He was picked up by a destroyer.
We anchored in the Mersey at about 6 o’clock in the evening. The docks seem to have been hit a bit more, and reports say the town is in a bad way. During the night there was a raid, and a bomb dropped between us and the ship astern – i.e. about 60ft away. Mr Bonner hardly woke up, but everyone else was up until 3.30am. Paddy woke me up and told me a raid was on. Was he excited?
