20th June 1941

Rain has been pouring down all the morning, and the wind has risen considerably.

Rather a startling thing occurred at 5.45pm – namely a change of course from 23° to 053° was ordered, and also the battleship (as far as we know) “Resolution”, has joined us. As yet, we don’t know what it is all about. Whereas the Commodore and ourselves were the leading ships of our columns, we have had to take the end ship’s position, as an emergency alterations all ships turn together.
