21st June 1945
Poured hard with rain all this morning. Fixed up the aerial this afternoon, but can’t get any XXX on the aerial XXX.
Matt came aboard just before 3 o’clock. His ship the Ocean Traveller is lying out at the end of our dock. They are sailing for Hamburg just after us.
The weather cleared up to a fine afternoon, and we sailed successfully at 15:00 hours. This will be my first experience of travelling with no blackout.
The ether is full of sound once more from British coast stations; ships are being called by their international call letters.
