22nd May 1942
The weather this morning was terrible, but this afternoon the sky cleared, the sun came out for the remainder of the day it stayed nice and bright. I spent most of this morning squaring up, and this afternoon I did some building maths.
After afternoon tea I had a game of darts with Tom, one of my roommates but went round the board instead of the orthodox fashion.
I have had a good look round the ship and decided that she is like all Blue Funnel ships!! Not much to look at but nevertheless quite comfortable. Food pretty good.
The chief engineer said today that the best ship of the company, was sunk 120 miles off Halifax, in terrible weather (snow, etc.). As it happens I received her SOS and can distinctly remember that we were very close to her and in similar weather.
The old man looks young but must be 50 orĀ more. His laugh is somewhat maniacal.
