23rd July 1944
On leave. Visited Stanleys, Dixons, Hamblins.
Had tennis tournament. Poor weather on the whole. Iris took a week’s leave and we cycled to Tonbridge but the weather was not too grand, in fact on the return journey it poured with rain.
We were expecting a further tennis tournament to come off on Saturday 27th but received a wire to report on Thursday. I caught the 0855 from Paddington and Shirley very kindly came with me. The train was crowded as usual, but I got a seat after Reading and arrived in Swansea at 1430. Mr Taylor was on leave when I called at the office and his secretary was running things. I was told that I would sign on a Tanker probably! I am now staying in the Y.M.C.A Officers Club in Gore Terrace, off St Helen’s Road
