24th April 1944
The siren went during the night and there was a little gun-fire but nothing startling. I didn’t wake up but No.1 said he heard it.
Our cabin is now habitable. It isn’t exactly the best of cabins but will do. The bosun on this ship was on the “W” when I was there. I thought I recognised him. Apparently he stayed on her until she was pipped in 1942. The Chief Engineer, Chief Officer, 9th Engr were all lost, and possibly some others. The Old Man was put ashore and has gone back to sea since.
We sailed at 2000, presumably for Belfast.
