Miss Paulin came up to my cabin this morning and we had a long discussion on art in general, and particularly on my efforts.
We seemed to agree on everything. Surprisingly enough she loved New York. She thought she didn’t think she would at first. She thought everything would seem crowded in but she was forgetting the wide streets and avenues. She couldn’t understand why more people didn’t paint the many excellent view of the sky scrapers, with their glorious shadows etc. She agreed that the Emp. State was a fine piece of work.
In her opinion it is better to be brought up on the pencil than charcoal, the latter may be easily employed for quick and clever effects.
She agreed that it would be nice to see the back of the Renaissance era.
