25th November 1941
The weather has been very rough all day, and really heavy seas have been sweeping across our main decks. In calm water there is only 6 to 7 feet from water to main deck level, so it is easy to understand how water comes on board. Then we are 18 inches overloaded, which makes it worse.
This kind of weather is still terribly fascinating to me, and I can hardly ever pass out on Deck without pausing for a moment to watch the majesty of the huge towering waves.
