BEEF
Today, the “Empress of Britain” was bombed, set on fire and abandoned, near Inishtrahulll, a little island off N. Ireland.
We were very close to that spot ourselves. One of our escorting destroyers dropped two depth charges, so presumably there was a sub in the vicinity.
Yesterday afternoon we could clearly see both the E. coast of Ireland and the W. of the Isle of Man. This morning was heralded by a lovely sunrise over the blue and purple hills of Londonderry. The ship on our port quarter, has evacuation children. It must be quite an experience for them to travel on a semi cargo ship, in convoy.
