26th October 1943
Another quiet, cool sunny day. The coast has been in view all day; the coast from Tobruk to Benghazi. Just behind the low-lying cliffs runs the coastal road that saw history in the making just one year ago. How quiet & peaceful it all looks now, yet but such a short time ago the echo of angry guns careered across these very waters. Somewhere in the sand dunes are many graves, & yet now all seems so quiet. The theatre of events has moved. Moved N.W. from Benghazi to Central Italy. Where next?
We shall reach Malta at noon on the 28th.
