2nd October 1943
We continue to make very good speed on a dead flat sea. We passed Madras at about 4 am today. The alarm bells were sounded at 10 o’clock this morning when a Catalina aircraft was sighted. There are reports that the Japs are using Catalinas. As it happened it was just a reconnaissance plane. She would have had a hot reception had it been a Jap, for we had 4 Oerlikons, 2 twin Hotchkiss, 2 sets of rockets, 4 of the latest parachute rocket guns & a 12 pounder, all manned!
