2nd September 1944

When I went on watch this morning, at 0400, it was blowing very hard and we had not joined up with the convoy, although we sailed at one bell (midnight).

Just as day was breaking, I went on the bridge to help the Mate with signalling. We eventually joined up but made very slow speed to Start Point. A message was sent here telling us to anchor in Tor Bay until morning, as the weather was too bad to keep in the Swept Channel. So by 6pm all the ships were safely anchored of Torquay. We were 1m from the beach. Shirley is on holiday there at present. The night was clear.
