30th December 1940
This morning I went ashore with the old man, to help him with the Unemployment stamps and various other things. We had to go to Liverpool of course, which meant going on the Woodside Ferry. Marconi are very busy, and are short of men. It maybe that I shall not have any leave.
There is a new kind of mine out now, known as an acoustic mine. It has sunk six ships off the Bar light already since Friday. Presumably it works by sound.
