31st October 1941
The weather changed with a rush during the night and by this morning there were short, choppy seas splashing against our port beam, causing us to lurch occasionally rather awkwardly. The wind was remarkably high and the sky a leaden grey. It was such a change from the weather we have had for the past week, that we even considered “blues”! The temperature at Houston was around 50° and at another place nearby, 45°!
The news came thorough of the sinking of a Yankee destroyer off the W. of Iceland.
We are now anchored off Galveston Bay and shall go along side tomorrow.
