3rd August 1940
More distresses came through last night, but you must forgive me if I don’t mention them every time, because it will become a bit boring.
Rolling has been worse today, and in one particularly bad spasm, I was slung backwards through an open door. Carrying one’s cocoa from the galley to the wireless room before going on watch, is a bit of a problem. Especially walking up the practically perpendicular companion -way.
The water receiver, which receives the water from the tip up wash basin, overflowed when the ship rolled, and flowed about in the cabin until it had soaked into the floor boards. Everything on the chest of drawers, was on the floor when I came off watch.
Our average speed for today was 5.8 knots! The average speed since we left Methil is 7 knots.
There are still several Albatrosses flying round us, even though we are 1500 miles out!
