3rd September 1940
Fortunately for us, the sea is astern of us. By that I mean that the waves are travelling in the same direction as we are. If the sea was ahead or a-beam of us, we should be in a very sorry state. Some of the waves are really tremendous in size, and when they reach their peak, the wind tips the crest over into a lovely mass of white foam.
It seems pretty certain that we shall reach Liverpool by Sunday afternoon.
The skipper was pretty happy at tea-time, because the latest news is that America has condescended to let us have 50 destroyers.
