4th April 1942

Arrived at Tetlow’s at around about midday. Did a lot of shopping at Center Square . Cissie had her 21st Birthday Party. About 25 people came altogether. Had a grand time and met Peggy Cavendy, who used to be an opera singer in Dayley Carte. She used to live in N. Shields, but came to America just after war broke out.
She sang some of the music from “The Chocolate Soldier” without any accompaniment. It was really good.

I have gained 5 pounds in weight so far, and hope to put on some more.
