5th March 1942

The convoy sailed at 11 o’clock this morning amidst a heavy snowstorm. It was not  ong before the decks were covered. Visibility was very poor.

Tomorrow we must meet the other sections of the convoy coming from other ports. A high wind with driving snow has been the order of the day as regards weather.

The Rear Commodore, whom is on this ship, has never been across the Atlantic, or to the States before. He is learning about convoys, prior to becoming a “pukka” Commodore. He seems an awfully nice chap, and is willing to learn from the bottom about convoys. Some of the questions he asks seem quite funny to us!

He has been ashore since the Abyssinian crisis.
