5th November 1940
The wind rose almost to gale force during the early hours of this morning, and we took some heavy ones on the port side, but it has since calmed down to just a gentle swell. Guy Fawke’s day was going to be celebrated by firing the 4” gun to see if it still works, but owing to another ship being sighted on the horizon, we decided to leave it till tomorrow.
We ought to reach Belle Isle by tomorrow night, or may be earlier, then 3 or 4 days from there and “Hey Presto!” Montreal!
