Location
At Sea - Atlantic - 46° Longitude
Age
17 Years

1st September 1940

At about 3.45pm, we sighted a fair size cargo ship, apparently drifting on its own, in the middle of the Atlantic. The escort ship went full speed ahead, just to see what it was. Apparently she had engine trouble, and was out of command. The escort ship had a scout around for a scout around and then rejoined the convoy.

I suppose most people back home, have been saying “Gosh! It doesn’t seem possible that it was a year ago when war broke out, does it?” No, that’s a fact it doesn’t! A lot has happened during that time!

We are now somewhere about 46° longitude, so we ought to be home about a week from today. It seems a very short trip this time, although it will only be about 3 weeks shorter than the last one.
