8th April 1941

During the night, enemy planes were flying over the convoy towards Northern Ireland, but fortunately it was too cloudy for them to see us. In the news this morning, it was said that a few bombs were dropped on N. Ireland, and a few casualties were reported.

When I went on watch this morning, we were passing the same spot as we were a week ago last Sunday night (!) when a destroyer was swinging a terrific search light round and round like some beacon. The 3rd mate claimed there was a captured sub there, but those days are passed anyway, so why worry!
