8th February 1944

The weather had eased down considerably by this morning and the convoy was able to form up again correctly. The aircraft carrier sent up some planes at lunch time – they were Marchelts – but one of them crashed while trying to land back on the carrier. We couldn’t tell how serious it was but she turned over.

The Old Man continues to be very quiet, except for one or two quiet cracks, while the rest of the company wear very long faces – at meal times anyway.
